We had a faaaaaaaaabulously sunny day today and I am feeling bullishly optimistic, so here's another random sunny day giveaway.
Top of the pile this time is Simple Knits with a Twist by Erica Knight, which is a lovely knitting book for a new knitter or someone who knows the basics but wants to knit something a bit more interesting or unusual. Some of the patterns use knitting for items you wouldn't generally expect to find made from knitting, some use non-standard 'yarns', and some are just plain quirky.

Seeing as nobody (NOBODY!) has left a comment, here's a quick reminder about the book giveaway which is closing tomorrow evening.

In between all the helping Stashlet walk and prising him away from things he shouldn't mess with, I am managing to get a bit of crafting done. So yesterday, I spent Stashlet's nap time at the sewing machine.
I have him in reuseable nappies and he needed more boosters. I saw some stuff called DiaperMaker Zorb which is supposed to "absorb ten times its weight in less than half a second and holds up to 3 times the moisture of the best absorbing knits", so I decided to give it a go. It's sold in 50cm lengths which would net me 20 boosters - more than enough and slim enough to be used in pairs for when Stashlet has been on the beers (only joking...).
I only had enough towelling for one side so the other side is my old stand-by, Ikea's Bomull. It's still cotton and therefore will wick the wee away (very aliteratively too), so I'm fine with that. I'm zigzagging round the edges and just have a couple more to do. I thought this would be less of a fiddle than cutting everything individually. I pinned everything throughly beforehand and after making sure that there were no pins in the way of the presser foot (although clearly I didn't look closely enough) and it was pretty quick.
Now I just need to cut between the zigzag and we'll have enough boosters for any eventuality. I hope...
This is a 'left-over' from KCWC but I can finally say it's finished. Several weeks ago in fact - it just took me a week to get decent shots of it, and another week to get to type about it (not helped by the fact that Stashlet (whose room is next door to what is rather optimistically called the office) seems to wake at the slightest tap on the keyboard these days, sigh).

But finally it was done! HOO-double-RAH.
I think I've already said that it's another jacket based on Jackie Clark's Cute as a Button Baby Jacket which I semi-redrew to have raglan sleeves and a funnel neck. This jacket gets better and better each time I fiddle with the pattern, and I'm particularly pleased with the funnel neck. However, even though I added another 5cm to the length it could still be longer, and is a bit too bomber jackety. I need to remember this for next time (there's bound to be one).
The robot fleece is from my LFS and was an impulse buy before Stashlet was born but after I found out the bump would be a boy. Glad I got it, I think it's great and there's enough for a few other things too. And the lining is a good old Ikea Polarvide blanket which is a lighter weight fleece than the outer - glad I got that too because they seem to have discontinued the navy.
I owe you several sewing posts but I never seem to get anything done these days, what with the wee Stashlet suddenly deciding that he could manage 3 hours awake at a time, and needing much more supervision now because he tries to spend as much time as possible practicing his walking (which requires hand holding) and when he's not doing that he's crawling at the speed of light, generally off to somewhere he shouldn't be.
So we are trying to baby-proof the house. This has also turned in to a general shift around and tidy up (also in hopeful preparation of moving, but nothing to report on that at the moment) and I am having a bit of a clearout.
Sunny days and blue skies - especially in November - make me a happier person, so I thought I would share my blue sky happiness with you lot out there in Blogland with some books to rehome.
My idea is that when we get blue skies and sunny days, and I'm feeling generally uplifted, I'll do a giveaway. I haven't really done giveaways before, except fot the SMS May Giveaway Days, so make the most of them before I run out of books!
