Over the weekend, I made my four quilt sandwiches for the Ikea quilted placemats. The backing is a medium weight calico from my LFS and the wadding is a cotton/poly mix that I got from the Dublin Knitting and Stitch Show a few years ago.
In my quest to be less of a make-it-up-as-you-go-along quilter, I did a quick bit of bloggy research and decided to go with Kate's idea of using Perle thread, the only problem being that I don't have any. I would like to match the thread to the fabric so the placemats are now on hold until I a. get me a DMC thread colour chart (which so far seem to be as rare as hens' teeth) and b. choose some thread and wait for it to arrive.
I hope all this resolves itself soon because I have an uncharacteristic urge to quilt. Perhaps it's just the size - small and therefore quickly finished - but I want to get on and sew, and have them finished and useable as soon as possible.
Show and Tell Tuesday is hosted by Randi at I have to say... so do go along and see what everyone else is up to today.
