In an attempt to cut down on the number of blogs I read (because frankly, there are not enough hours in the day to go through half of what comes into my feedreader but I just need to collect things) I started to save, well, more like not delete, all posts I got from the beginning of this year. The idea was that I would stop subscribing to the really infrequent ones ...
... but nearly everyone seems to have got more infrequent compared to say, a year ago. And then, Melissa at All Buttoned Up mentioned a post on Kottke.org (which I had never heard of (sorry!)) suggesting that the blog form was dead, having effectively been superseeded by things like Pinterest and Twitter, and a whole host of other things which I never seem to have time for.
... and in the meantime, I have added even more blogs to my ridiculously overworked feedreader.
... but I ended up deciding that there were only one or two blog subscriptions that I could really do without so the whole exercise ended up being somewhat unnecessary. But interesting.
Anyway. This is possibly me trying to justify being completely useless at posting anything at the moment, but perhaps the fact that I'm managing to type this means things are on the up.
Stay tuned people.
Mildly related observation:
When you write a post in Typepad, it recommends related links and posts, picked (it seems) completely randomly. So today's suggestions were
- a post by me about charm squares
- a post by me about granny squares
- a post by someone I've never heard of about granola
- two posts by someone else I've never heard of about feedreaders (Ok, so this one manages to have some relevance)
- and a post from goodness-knows-who about not managing your firewall properly
Is this where an American would say "go figure"?
