I managed to engage my brain while the sun was shining! And take photos! This total excess of competence surely can't last for long...
I tried to hang the quilt on the washing line but, of course, as soon as I did that the wind started blowing, so I had to do it Film in the Fridge style with lots of setting the camera timer and running around because Mr G had already gone off to work. Add to that a teensie bit of cropping to get my wrinkly socks out of the photo, and I (finally) give you the Lila Tueller quilt...
The wind started blowing a bit there too, so it looks much narrower at the bottom than it really is.
So. This is two 5" charm packs of the whole of Lila's Santorini range, the thin white border is some poly-cotton sheeting that I had in my stash, the orange and gold leavey pattern is more Santorini, and the yellow border is a Kona cotton in Banana. The wadding came from the US via the Dublin Knitting and Stitch Show (it was sold to me as 100% cotton but the label seems to suggest there's 10% polyester in there), and the backing is a Polarvide fleece blanket from Ikea which I cut to size. It turned out about 30 x 55" in the end.
I think I'm getting used to the busy-ness of this quilt but next time I do an all-mad-charm-pack-quilt I will definitely put a plain colour between the patterns.
I will never be anything other than a mediocre quilter - I like the end product but I just don't have the enthusiasm for the processes involved - but I do have some more quilts that I want to make (and have fabric for already!), so if I get fed up with (or over-run by) baby stuff, perhaps I'll get the next lot of fabric out.
I also made three burp-cloths-cum-general-wipey-things over the weekend with three of the fat quarters I got from the DKSS. People suggest muslin a lot as a protective cloth to sling over your shoulder before you burp a baby but all the muslin I know is, I think, far too thin to work, so I thought something with a bit of towelling would probably do the job better.
This was before the is it, isn't it? drama but fortunately all three fabrics are pretty non-gender specific.
I just backed them with a fat quarter sized piece of bamboo french terry jersey which I got from Eco Earth Fabrics' Ebay shop (but they also have a non-Ebay shop which by the way is having a sale until the end of the month). I originally bought the terry for making bibs and there is still enough over to make a good few of those as well (once I get my act together and draw up a pattern for them!).
So, before the promised blizzard starts, I shall waddle off to the shops and then get on with some studying.
